Academy at Charlemont Summer Theatre Workshop
1359 Route 2, Charlemont, MA, 339-4912.
http://www.charlemont.org
Summer Theatre Workshop.
This year's workshop will run Mon-Fri, July 2-21. We will not meet on Wednesday, July 4; we will meet on Saturday, July 22. The workshop runs 9AM-3PM, except Tues-Fri of the final week, when we will continue until about 9PM because of evening performances.
This workshop is open to anyone 12 to 18 years old. No prior experience is necessary; nor is one required to be an Academy student. The cost is $500.
For those unfamiliar with the format, we transform a fairy tale into a musical comedy of approximately 75 minutes in length. I encourage (count on! depend on!) the ideas and creative energy of the participants. There is no "chorus" or "guard with spear"; everyone gets a role s/he can really chew on.
We picnic and swim (well, some of us swim) most days when the weather is favorable, work hard otherwise, and perform for (typically) over 1000 people during the third week. It's fun, and it's intensive, and we all learn a lot.
Interested parties should send in a $100 deposit, handed carefully to Ms Mackie, to secure space, soon, as participation is limited. Questions? Call me-Gerrit White-at school or at home (413) 339-5361.
Call or visit school Web site for more information.
